Papierfabrik Gebr. Lang GmbH planned a new combined heat and power plant at the Ettringen site. The fuels of the new combined heat and power plant are natural gas, residues from paper production and substitute fuels. A highly efficient combined heat and power plant with a gas and steam turbine (111 MW) and a residue boiler (55 MW) with fluidised bed combustion is planned. Combined heat and power generation will take place by generating electricity from the steam generated in a back-pressure turbine with generator and using the partially relaxed steam in the paper mill. The additional use of steam in paper production significantly increases efficiency.
